About Me - Kristen

So for those of you who don't know me here is a little bit of an idea of who I am and the things I like to do.  I am a student at VT studying nutrition (dietetics option to become a Registered Dietitian) and also Excercise and Health Promotion.  I work at my school gym as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor.  I am going into my second year for doing both of these which i LOVE.  I teach yoga, pilates, and a killer bootcamp class.  I love being active and am currently training for my second 1/2 marathon this fall with Abby.  It is a trail run and something I have never done before but am super excited to try as I did my 1st half last summer but it was mostly hilly and just on roads.  I got certified in Yoga through YogaFit last February and hope to continue when I get older doing an actual 500 hour course to get the "official" bigger training - I LOVE HOT YOGA!  I love really just being outside in general- kayaking, PADDLEBOARDING, running/jogging, walking on the beach (I live on the beach in MA), hiking, jumprope, biking, you name it I probably am up for it! Ok so along with my avid activity level I have a true passion for food and giving my body what it needs to support and excel in all these activites I love to do.  I love learning new techniques and how flavors can come together in a dish.  I try new combinations of foods all the time and love to bake/cook whenever I have the chance ( I am SUPER busy though so this is a huge challenge).  I love reading cookbooks and watching TopChef, Food Network Challenge, Iron Chef, and basically anything on Food Network.  I have recently become a pescatarian so I work a lot around meatless dishes and getting protein from alternate animal sources.  There are several reasons for this which I could go into for a while trying to explain but I will just reccomend watching Food Inc., FRESH, and reading Savor; Mindful Eating Mindful Life as these are some important things that help back up why I choose to eat the way I do.  I love supporting local farmers markets and worked with a vendor last year and am hoping to do the same this year as well (if time permits).  Ok so back to food and what this is all about - staying mindful, healthy, nutritious and coming up with new fun ways to make food fun and enjoyable.  Ok so I think I keep rambling but I hope you have learned a little bit more about me from what I call a "brief" rundown on who I am.

The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly."-Buddah
